My pictures are photographic prints, negatives, and slides. How do I put them on the web site?
There are three sources of photos:
Digital comes from a digital camera, so if you have that, you already have a file and just have to be able to transfer it to a computer. Most digital cameras create file names that are combinations of letters and numbers, so, usually, you'll want to view the file on your computer and rename it.
If you have a negative or a slide of the photo in good condition, you can take that film to almost any store that processes photographic film and have them turn the film into positive (as opposed to negative) digital files. Many places allow you to choose which images from a negative strip you want, if you only want a particular image. Usually they place these images on CD that you can use on any computer that has a CD or DVD drive.
The alternative is to have access to a scanner with a special attachment that scans film.
If all you have prints, you can take those to a photo processing store and have them converted into digital files as well.
The alternative here is also to have access to a scanner.
Once you have the digital files, you're not quite finished. To put them on the web site, they need to be re-saved with some settings to make sure they fit on the screen and don't take too long to load. It's kind of technical to explain. So when you have something ready, send me a sample picture and I'll either give you straight-forward instructions or I'll make the modifications myself.
When working with digital files, it is always safest to make a copy of the original file on the computer in a work folder. Then, you can make changes to those copies and still have the original in case you make a mistake.
When naming files, please don't use spaces in the file names. To separate words, you can use the dash character instead of a space.
